Education and scholarship is a foundational precept of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. The sorority encourages academic growth and excellence for students of all ability and educational levels from early childhood education to post-secondary education. Undergraduate members are held to a high standard of performance and are expected to maintain their scholastic GPA while active in the sorority. The importance of having a strong foundation in education is a focal point of the sorority and is exemplified through service projects, such as Project Mwanamugimu, which is an essay competition for high school students.

S.P.E.A.R stands for Sigma Public Education and Research Foundation. It is the mission of the S.P.E.A.R. Foundation to promote social, civic, cultural, economic, and educational progress for vulnerable or at-risk families and communities.
